Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

TruthScroll is operated by The Basement Group LLC ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information TruthScroll collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. If you have questions, contact us at jschwerin@thebasementgroupllc.com.

Information we collect

Account information. To sign in, you provide an email address. TruthScroll normally uses a one-time email code. Authentication credentials are securely processed and stored by Supabase; TruthScroll does not store plain-text passwords.

Content you create. If you save notes, highlights, study collections, or generated lesson material while signed in, that content is stored and tied to your account so it's available the next time you sign in, on any device.

Questions you ask. If you use the Ask or Family features, the text of your question or topic and relevant Scripture context are sent to our AI provider (see below) to generate a response. We do not intentionally include your email address or account identifier in that request. Recent Ask activity is also stored locally on your device for your dashboard.

TruthScroll does not currently use advertising trackers. We use limited error and performance monitoring to diagnose failures.

How we use your information

  • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • To save and sync your notes, highlights, and study collections across devices.
  • To generate answers for the Ask and Family features.
  • To maintain and improve the service, including diagnosing technical problems.

Third-party services we use

TruthScroll relies on a small number of third-party services to operate:

  • Supabase -- handles authentication and stores your account, notes, and highlights.
  • OpenAI -- when you use Ask or Family, the text of your question or topic is sent to OpenAI's API to generate a response. OpenAI's own privacy policy governs how they handle that data.
  • bible-api.com -- used to look up scripture text for certain passages. Only a verse reference (e.g. "Genesis 1:1") is sent, never anything tied to your identity.
  • Vercel -- hosts the application and processes standard web request logs as part of normal hosting infrastructure.
  • Sentry -- receives technical error and performance information when monitoring is enabled. We do not intentionally send Bible notes or study content to Sentry.

We don't sell your information to anyone, for any purpose.

Data retention and deletion

We keep account data and saved content while your account remains active. You may export your data, clear device data, or permanently delete your account and associated cloud content from Privacy and Data Settings. You may also contact jschwerin@thebasementgroupllc.com for assistance.

Local storage

Reading position, chapter history, preferences, signed-out notes and highlights, Saved Studies, and recent Ask activity may be stored in your browser's local storage. Clearing browser data or using TruthScroll's device-clear control removes it from that device. Cloud data is removed separately.

Children's privacy

TruthScroll is intended for use by adults. The Family feature generates discipleship lesson content for parents and guardians to use with children offline -- children are not expected to create their own accounts or submit their own information to the service.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Use a unique email account for sign-in and contact us if you notice anything suspicious about your account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
